Teenager dies in eventing accident

A17-year-old girl has died during an eventing accident in New South Wales, Australia.

Crushing fall

Olivia Inglis was competing in a two-star competition at Scone Horse Trials in Hunter Valley when her horse fell, crushing her.

The experienced event rider was riding Coriolanus, an 11-year-old Thoroughbred owned by her family.

According to Equestrian Australian, Olivia received urgent medical attention from the on-course paramedic and doctor. A Westpac rescue helicopter was also called to the scene, but she could not be revived.

“It is with the deepest regret we announce that Olivia Inglis suffered a tragic accident whilst competing in the cross-country phase at the Scone horse trials,” they said.

“The family horse Coriolanus is in a stable condition and remains under veterinary observation.”

Crushing

The Inglis family are well known in the equestrian world in Australia. Her parents Charlotte and Arthur Inglis breed and sell Thoroughbreds, and the family business was first set up in 1867.

Equestrian Australia and Scone Horse Trials offered their “heartfelt condolences” to Olivia’s family for their “tragic loss”.
