Ace ending for horse sinking in bog

A 17hh event horse who escaped from his field was found up to his neck in a bog – and sinking fast.

Winched to safety

According to Ace’s owner Zoe Caldicott, the horse thought the “grass was greener over there” – but he ended up falling into a deep bog on farmland in Wisborough Green, where he became stuck for a “good few hours”.

Realising her horse was unable to get out by himself, Zoe called the West Sussex Fire and Rescue at around 7.30pm on 13 August.

The technical rescue unit was soon on hand and with the assistance of a vet they winched Ace out of the water using a Unimog vehicle and animal rescue equipment.

Worrying experience

The horse was taken back to his stables at around 10.45 after being checked over by the vet.

“Ace is ok just a few rug rubs but fingers crossed all ok,” Zoe said to H&C. “Thanks to everyone who helped rescue him. It was a worrying experience and one I never want to happen again.”
