William Fox-Pitt’s Badminton winner Tamarillo has been put to sleep at 23, after old age caught up with him.

Success

Bred by the Guinness family at the Biddesden stud, he went on to have a very successful career with William, including winning Badminton in 2004, European gold and silver medals, and he was part of the 2004 Olympic squad for the Athens Games.

In 2008 he rounded off his stellar career with an emotional win at Burghley, since then he has enjoyed a happy retirement wit Jackie Potts, who travelled to all the major championships with him.

Talented

William Fox-Pitt paid tribute to the gelding, calling him ‘one in a million’, while British Eventing team Chef d’Equipe Yogi Breisner called the horse a “great character.”

“Tamarillo was one of the most talented horses I was fortunate enough to come across,” said Yogi. “He had a fantastic record and was a major contributor to several medals for the British Team.

“I know he had a very happy retirement and will be sorely missed, but we all have the wonderful memories of his incredible career,” he added.

Our condolences go to the Guinness family, and those at Fox-Pitt eventing.
