RoR Championship Show attracts big names

The first show held exclusively for ex-racehorses has attracted over 350 entries numbers, with several former racing stars taking part.

Top names entered in the inaugural RoR (Retraining of Racehorses)Championship Show include Barbers Shop, Desert Sea, Jack The Giant, Noland, Purple Moon, Royal Rock and Snoopy Loopy, whose combines earnings were more than £2m during their racing careers.

The two-day show at Aintree Equestrian Centre (29-30 August) features 27 classes, from grassroots competitions to the Elite Showing Series, where the winner will recieve £2,500.

There is also jumping, concours d’elegance, side saddle and in-hand classes, but the big event of the weekend is the RoR Overall Supreme Champion.

According to RoR chief executive Di Arbuthnot there has been a 25 percent increase in entries within the past year for the RoR Series. There are now 5,000 former racehorses competing in a range of classes.

“We hope that the show will grow in future years and become the event everyone with a former racehorse wants to attend and compete at, either for the championships or the grassroots classes,” said Di.

In addition to the classes the RoR Musical Ride Team will perform on the Saturday evening and former Grand National winner Neptune Collonges will parade.

The show starts at 8am, with the evening performance starting at 6pm. Entry for all spectators is free.
