The 2015 Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials kick off today, with all 74 horses having passed the first inspection.

Re-inspection

Two horses were held for re-inspection – Newmarket Vasco One, who is ridden by Willa Newton and Matthew Heath’s ride The Lion. It was a particularly tense moment for Matthew, whose horse was spun at Badminton earlier in the season. However, both eventers passed the re-inspection and are allowed to compete.

The action starts at 9.30 with the Oliver Townend and Dromgurrihy Blue the first combination in the dressage. Oliver will also close the dressage, with Armada last to go tomorrow.

Burghley debut

Other big names to look out for this morning are Pippa Funnell and Redesigned – the first of her two horses – and Germany’s Michael Jung who makes his Burghley debut. His first horse is Ischerrocana FST at 10.42.

Last year’s Badminton winners Sam Griffiths and Paulank Brockagh are also competing before midday, as is H&C favourite Francis Whittington on Fernhill Highlight.
