British Eventing to extend ban on headcams

With the 2015 eventing season well under way, British Eventing (BE) has announced riders are still banned from wearing cameras at affiliated competitions.

Further research

BE first made its decision in November last year. Following a “lengthy discussion” at a recent risk management committee meeting, which includes senior medical advisors, it has been decided to extend the ban.

This will be maintained until further research is done, to find out whether helmet cameras exacerbate injuries in the event of a fall.

‘Acceptable solution’

“Whilst recognising some people’s desire to use cameras, the committee is mindful of the possible injuries that could be sustained in a fall if certain types of cameras are used,” read a statement from BE.

“BE shall continue to try to find a solution that is acceptable to everyone.”
