Police officers are appealing for information after a foal was deliberately set alight in a vicious attack.

Fighting for his life

The four-month-old foal is said to be fighting for survival following the attack, which occured in Pinxton in Derbyshire sometime between the evening of Monday 17 August and the morning of Wednesday 19 August.

The perpetrator is believed to have poured an inflammable liquid on the foal’s face before setting fire to it.

The skewbald foal, who is called Angus, suffered serious burns to his nose, face and front legs as a result of the attack.

Defenceless

The foal was in a field along with two other foals and some horses. He was part of a group of emaciated coloured cobs rescued by Kayleigh Appleby, 28.

“He is now so weak that if he gets down on the floor he can’t get back up. It’s 50/50 at the moment whether he will make it or not.I can’t understand why anyone would do this to a defenceless baby,” Kayleigh told the Derby Telegraph.

Derbyshire Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

“He’s fighting for his life and I’m appealing for help to catch whoever did this to the defenceless animal,” said PCSO Becky Davis said.

Anyone who has any information about either incident should ring 101, quoting incident number 231/24/08/15, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Alternatively, you can contact the RSPCA.
