What to do you get when you cross a 70-acre uninhabited island, with six Connemaras and one horse trainer? An award-winning documentary with Emma Massingdale.

Wild ponies

Many of you will know Emma from another of her documentaries, No Limits, and she is also a former H&C blogger.

The Island Project sees the trainer and film maker spend four weeks camping on an Irish island off the coast of Connemara National Park with four Connemaras from her Liberty team and two unhandled ponies.

Her aim is back the wild ponies, without the help of any tack or enclosures.

Bare essentials

“Normally we bring horses to survive in our world, now it’s my turn to survive in theirs,” said Emma. “ I am going to be living in a tent and have a camping stove to cook meals. No luxuries, just the bare essentials, the ponies and me!”

The Island Project is a beautifully filmed and fascinating look at the unique way Emma trains her horses – and how she creates an incredible bond with them.

EQUUS Film Festival

The documentary, which was made in partnership with Equine Productions, won an award in the international documentary category at EQUUS Film Festival in New York.

That same year Emma and Equine Productions also won ‘Best Equestrian Commercial – Mini’ for The Midnight Race. Last year they won yet another award for Mole Valley’s Not Your Average Store commercial, which featured on H&C.

Don’t miss The Island Project when it premieres on Horse & Country TV and Amazon Video on Saturday 5 May at 8pm.
