A horse who is blind in one eye has been abandoned after being hit more than 100 times with a paintball gun.

Poor condition

The Arab X Appaloosa was discovered at the stables of an auction house in Pennsylvania, USA at the end of a sale day. She was in such poor condition that the stable management and vet there contacted the local SPCA (Society for thePreventionof Cruelty toAnimals) for help.

“The horse was not originally checked in as a ‘horse for sale’ andappeared to be dumped at the sales stable property after the sale was finished,” said a post on Lancaster County SPCA’sFacebook page. “No identification on the horse could be found.”

The mare, who has been called Lily, is believed to be around 20 years old and is blind in her right eye. She was also covered in paint and had a low body condition with a slight temperature.

Substantial pain

According to SPCA executive director Susan Martin, Lilyhad been struck by about 130 paint balls at close range.

“She was definitely in a substantial amount of pain when touched,” she told Lancaster Online.

The vet at the sales house gave the pony treatment and pain medication before she was taken to a local hospital by Omega Horse Rescue.
