McCoy new president of Injured Jockeys Fund

AP McCoy is to become the new president of Injured Jockeys Fund (IJF).

‘In touch’

AP is currently vice patron at the charity, but he will swap roles with John Francome who has been president since 2012.

It was John’s idea for AP to take over, citing the importance of keeping young blood at the IJF, and saying AP will be “more in touch” with today’s jockeys.

Knighted

It’s been a busy 12 months for the champion jockey who retired in April last year. He has since had a go at dressage, won the JCB Champions Challenge at Barbury Horse Trials and was knighted in December for his services to horse racing. And it is racing that will always be his first love.

“The Injured Jockeys Fund’s work is so important to racing,” said AP. “Now I have retired I am really enthusiastic about taking on the role, as well as honoured to be asked, and just hope that I can add something to the fantastic work the Fund does in helping injured jockeys and their families.”

Contribution

Lisa Hancock CEO of the IJF said they “couldn’t be happier” that Sir AP is taking up the role.

“His contribution to racing has been so significant already and the whole team is looking forward to working with him,” she said.
