The Rolex Grand Slam of Showjumping has kicked off again, with Steve Guerdat winning the first event on home turf.

‘Simply superb’

Taking the title in the Rolex Grand Prix at the CHI Geneva yesterday (13 December) means Steve is now in with a chance of winning the $1m bonus.

The reigning Olympic gold medallist was ninth to go out of a 16 in the jump-off. Riding his top horse Nino des Buissonnets, he pulled off a superb clear in a very fast time to win the event for the third time in five years.

“I am delighted about this victory, my horse Nino is simply superb,” said Steve. “The crowd really helped me and of course a bit of luck always has to be on your side.

“The Major in Geneva is one of the most important competitions for me, it has the same standing as a Championship in my eyes.” French rider Simon Delestre was second, while Canada’s’ Eric Lamaze came third.

Live on H&C

Scott Brash became the first rider to win the Grand Slam title when he won in Geneva last December, Aachen in June 2015 and Spruce Meadows in September – which was shown live on H&C.

The event now starts again and following Steve’s win in Geneva, he is the one to watch at the Aachen event next June.

H&C showed the Rolex Grand Prix from CHI Geneva live last night. Don’t worry if you missed it as you can watch it again on Sky 253 at the following times, or On Demand or via Catch Up on H&C Play.
