Survey into impact of crime in rural areas

Rural dwellers are being urged to take part in the largest ever survey looking at the impact of crime on communities in rural areas.

‘Human implications’

The survey is run by the National Rural Crime Network, which was set up in 2014. It is supported by police and crime commissioners (PCC) and police forces across England and Wales as well as a number of organisations including the Countryside Alliance, the CLA and Neighbourhood Watch.

Anyone living or working in rural areas is being encouraged to take part in the survey, which aims to “shed light on the human implications” of crime.

Bigger problem

“Any crime that happens in an urban area can and does happen in rural areas too, including violent crime, traffic offences and anti-social behaviour,” said Countryside Alliance executive chairman Barney White-Spunner.

“Crime can affect all those living and working in rural areas, with traditional farm-related incidents such as fuel theft and sheep rustling making up just one part of a much bigger problem.

The survey can be completed online and is open until Wednesday 24 June.
