Shepherd cancels British Eventing fixture

A British Eventing fixture has been cancelled at the request of a local shepherd, protecting his flock.

Attacked by dogs

Just after the Somerley Park International in April, heritage Herdwick sheep and lambs grazing on the estate were attacked by dogs and some were killed. As a result, the shepherd has said he will not move his flock.

This means Somerley (2) in Hampshire, which was due to take place on 27-28 June, has been cancelled. The event was being run to replace Salperton, which was also cancelled.

Lost classes

Event organiser Suzie Cotterill said: “I wish we were in a position to continue. However the estate has confirmed its commitment to working with us for the International on 30-31 March 2016, or for a second event later in the year.”

British Eventing is currently looking at options to replace classes lost from this fixture.
