Manes and tails hacked off in mystery attack

Horses on a small livery yard have had their mane and tails hacked off by unknown assailants.

Owners of the horses in Shoreham, East Sussex have been left shaken after finding five horses with most of their tails missing, while another had large chunks of his mane cut off.

The report on BBC South East Today Facebook page has sparked a barrage of comments, with many horse owners concerned as to how the trespassers got onto the yard.

The attackers came onto the property on Steyning Road between 8pm and 10pm on Saturday, 30 January.

‘Malicious attack’

Phil Lee who owns the stables described the incident as a “malicious attack”

“Whoever did it went into the stables to get the first two and then went up into the other fields in the dark to make sure they got the others as well,” said Phil in the Shoreham Herald.

The local community has donated money as a reward and there is currently £2,000 being offered for any leads.

Police investigation

The incident has been reported to the police and CCTV footage is being examined.
