Top eventers entered for Badminton 2014

Entries are in for this year’s Badminton Horse Trials with some of the biggest names in eventing competing, in a bid to impress the selectors for the World Equestrian Games in Normandy this summer.

Former winners

Eight former winners will be hoping to get their name on the much-coveted Mitsubishi Motors Trophy once again, including British favourites Mary King (1992 and 2000), Pippa Funnell (2002, 2003 and 2005),William Fox-Pitt (2004) andOliver Townend (2009).

Mary will be riding Imperial Cavalier, who has completed on four occasions, coming third and fourth, while William Fox-Pitt has a choice of four horses, including his European bronze medallist Chilli Morning.

Representing Australia are Andrew Hoy (2006), Paul Tapner (2010) and Lucinda Fredericks who achieved back-to-back wins at Burghley (2006), Badminton (2007) and Kentucky (2009).

Waiting list

Double Olympic champion Sir Mark Todd will also be aiming for this fifth win there, while fellow Kiwi Andrew Nicholson will be hoping to make his 34th Badminton the year he finally wins the title.

Over 130 entries have been received, but with only 85 places available, there are a number of hopefuls on the waiting list. The full list of riders can be seen on the Badminton website.
