McLain Ward has won the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup in Toronto riding HH Gigi’s Girl.

World Cup Champion

The 2017 World Cup Champion was last to go in the jump-off which featured five fast combinations, from four different nations.

McLain used his prime position to his full advantage, snatching victory from American teammate Devin Ryan with a fast time of 32.42sec.

“It was nice to have the last spot in the order,” said McAlain. “I thought [everyone] was pretty quick. I know Devin’s horse is quick, because he’s beat me few times!”

Great performance

McLain and Devin were on the gold-medal winning team at the World Equestrian Games (WEG) in September. Devin was riding his WEG partner Eddie Blue, who put in a great performance to come second on 33.88sec. Local favourite Ali Ramsay was third with Hermelien van de Hooghoeve, finishing on a time of 34.62sec seconds.

McLain’s win moves him into third place in the east coast sub league standings of the FEI Jumping World Cup North American League.

USA’s Molly Ashe Cawley reclaimed her top spot, after she turned in yet another top 10 finish in Toronto. Beezie Madden is in second place, however as the 2018 champion she automatically qualifies for the 2019 World Cup Final.
