The Mark Todd training scheme is giving five up-and-coming riders the training and support to becoming British Eventing coaches.

Career opportunities

The coaching bursary is part of theMarkToddBridging the Gap (MTBTG) training series, sponsored by Keyflow and theMarkToddCollection. It aims to provide eventers with additional job opportunities to complement their competitive career.

Thanks to additional funding from Sport England, the bursary will provide training and assessment worth in excess of £1,000 to help the students gain qualifications needed to market themselves as BE Accredited Development Coaches.

The candidates

The five successful candidates currently all receive help under the MTBTG training programme as riders. They are:

Justin Clubley, 33, from Surrey

Amy Hawley, 23, from North Yorkshire

Anna Cheney, 29, from Northamptonshire

Holly Bradshaw, 25, from Hertfordshire

Tyler Cassells, 25, from Cheshire

Improving skills

“We launched the coaching bursary since we feel it is imperative that we pass on good teaching ethics and encourage coaches to get a good practical understanding of what they are teaching and why,” said Gill Watson one of the lead Coaches of the MTBTG series.

“We are all still learning all the time so it is important that we help our bursary winners to understand that good coaches constantly strive to improve their skills by gaining experience and observing other coaches throughout their careers.”
