Marcus Ehning delivered a masterclass in showjumping, taking the title in the €300,000 CSI5* Rolex Grand Prix at the Stephex Brussels Masters.

Stunning round

The German rider was last to go in a six-horse jump-off, and he rode a stunning round on the talented stallion Comme il faut 5.

Executing his trademark tight turns and a gallop to the final oxer, Marcus finished nearly four seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

“Comme il faut is an incredible horse,” said Marcus. “He has an unbelievable heart. He loves this kind of speed, and now he is also so good on his turns.”

Best riders

Sweden’s Douglas Lindelöw was second with Zacramento, with the USA’s Lauren Hough and Waterford just behind them in third place.

“All the best riders are here with their best horses,” said Douglas. “I just tried to put a little bit of pressure on the other ones seeing that I was in the beginning.

“I think I could have maybe done a round that was one to one-and-a-half seconds quicker, but it still wouldn’t have been enough to beat Marcus.”

German maestro

This was the German maestro’s second big win of the weekend, as he also won the Grand Prix qualifier. Both competitions were presented by Audi, which meant he had the difficult task of driving two new Audis back to his home in Borken, Germany.

It’s a tough life being an international showjumper…
