Dutch driver Koos De Ronde thrilled the home crowd in Maastricht by winning the FEI Driving World Cup qualifier.

World Cup champion

The former World Cup champion shared the victory with his wife and son, who crewed as the navigator and backstepper for his four-horse team.

Second place went to reigning World Cup champion Boyd Exell, while Ijsbrand Chardon was third place.

Boyd finished a disappointing fifth in last week’s Stuttgart qualifier, but he was back on form in Maastricht. Following a great round, he took the lead with a clear in a time of 133.58sec.

However, with the crowd behind him, Koos snatched victory with a faster time of 132.98sec.

Top of the leaderboard

Ijsbrand is currently at the top of the World Cup Driving leaderboard on 19 points. Jérome Voutaz of Switzerland has held onto second place on 12 points, after finishing in seventh place at Maastricht. Boyd Exell is tied with Jérome, with Glenn Geerts and Chester Weber close on their heels.

With legs still to come in Stockholm, Budapest, Geneva, London, Mechelen, and Leipzig, places to the FEI Driving World Cup Finals in Bordeaux next February are still very much up for grabs.

Don’t miss FEI World Cup Driving: Maastricht when it premieres on Thursday 29 November at 8.30pm.
