Kauto Star to perform at Olympia Horse Show
Kauto Star is to perform to a packed house at Olympia, showing how he has adapted to his new career.
Dressagedemo
The former steeplechaser will take part in a dressage demonstration under floodlights tonight on the opening night of the London show with rider Laura Collett.
The pair share the bill with World Equestrian Games silver medallist Michael Eilberg, who will be giving a masterclass with his father Ferdi.
Electric atmosphere
“I don’t know for sure how Kauto will react on the night as there is no way of preparing a horse to perform in front of a packed crowd at Olympia,” said Laura.
“The combination of the lights and the crowd make for an electric atmosphere. However, he is a horse that loves attention and I am sure he will rise to the occasion.
The 14-year-old gelding is widely considered one of the greatest steeplechasers of all time. He won 16 Grade One races, including the King George VI Chase a record five timesas well as the Cheltenham Gold Cup twice.
Very intelligent
Kauto retired from racing in 2012 and has since been retrained in dressage by Laura.
“He is a very intelligent horse and has been a pleasure to be around throughout his time with me,” said Laura. “He has adapted really well, enjoys his dressage and I would love him to show everyone how far he has come by delivering a great demonstration on Tuesday night.”
