Inspired by Rio? Perhaps it’s time to ‘Give Horses a Go’

More than 50 equestrian venues across the UK will open their doors to the public next month, offering free sessions to anyone that wants to get closer to horses and give the sport a go.

The Give Horses a Go Weekend (17-18 September) is an event run by the British Equestrian Federation which encourages people of all ages, gender, ability and backgrounds to meet horses and participate in a range of horsey activities.

Many will have been inspired by the equestrian gold medal successes from the London and Rio Olympic Games. Head of Participation at the British Equestrian Federation, Anna Hall believes the sport can be reached by anyone.

“We know that some exercise improves fitness, some relieves stress, some gets you out in the open air, but we believe that horse riding and equestrian volunteering delivers all that and more,” she said.

“It really is a sport of well-being for the mind, body and spirit and we hope to encourage as many people as possible to get involved and join the ride.”

Last year’s event saw over 2,000 people attend with more than 300 signing up for horse riding lessons.
