Horse dies after becoming entangled in fence
A horse in West Sussex has had to be put down after becoming entangled in an electric fence, in what the owners believe could be a deliberate act.
Tightly wrapped
George, a skewbald gelding, was found lying down in a field in Blackgate Lane, Pulborough, West Sussex, on 9 September. He was found with the electric fence line wrapped tightly several times around his left fore and hind legs.
“At first we thought it was just an unfortunate accident where George had got himself tangled up in the fence,” said owner Zoe Walker, from Soul Equestrian. “However, the number of times that the fence line was wrapped around each foot aroused our suspicions and we called the police.”
Circulation
The tape had become so tight that it cut off circulation to both of George’s feet. A vet was called but the electric fence had caused ‘irreparable injuries’ and the horse had to be put to sleep a few days later.
“We would like to hear from anyone who has any information about the incident or who has experienced anything similar,” saidPC Jonny Walker from Sussex Police.
Anyone who was around the area at any time from late afternoon or overnight on Monday 8 September is asked to speak to Sussex Police by calling 101 and quoting serial 1096 of 18/09, or emailing101@sussex.pnn.police.uk
