A series of stunning photographs of last year’s Hickstead Derby winners have been released to raise money for the Mark Davies Injured Riders’ Fund.

One-eyed wonder horse

The All England Jumping Course at Hickstead commissioned top equine photographer Matthew Seed photograph of Trevor Breen and his one-eyed-wonder horse Adventure De Kannan.

As well as winning the Equestrian.com Derby last year, the pair has won nearly every major class at Hickstead, including the Bunn Leisure Speed Derby, the Templant Events Queen Elizabeth II Cup, the All England Grand Prix and the Amlin Plus Eventing Grand Prix.

Incredible record

“Trevor and Addy have an incredible record at Hickstead – no other horse has won such an array of major titles at our shows,” said Lizzie Bunn, Hickstead director. “We wanted to mark his achievements in some way, so we approached Matthew Seed about creating this very special photoshoot.”

Matthew spent the day at Trevor and his wife Caroline’s yard in Buckinghamshire.

“I think the resulting photos really capture the amazing bond between Trevor and his horse,” said Matthew. “I’ve worked with lots of horses but Addy was one of the easiest equine models – he was endlessly patient and stood beautifully throughout.”

Repeat victory

There are seven photographs in the collection and the one voted the most popular by Hickstead’s social media fans will be displayed at this year’s Equestrian.com Hickstead Derby Meeting, where it will auctioned to raise funds for the Mark Davies Injured Riders’ Fund.

Trevor and Addy will also be there in person, and the Irish rider is determined for a repeat victory in the prestigious class.

“I want to win again,” he said. “I definitely think Addy could be one of those horses who could win the Derby several times.”
