Harry Charles has won individual gold at the Young Rider European Showjumping Championships in France.

Fantastic weekend

Harry’s performance capped a fantastic weekend in Fontainebleau, after winning team gold two days earlier.

Harry was joined by Graham Babes (Boucheron), Will Fletcher (Persimmon) and Amy Inglis (Wishes) in the team event. They finished on 25.08 penalties ahead of Germany in silver position (30.73) and Denmark in bronze (41.79).

In the individual competition Harry produced two immaculate rounds with Vivaldi Du Dom, a 13 year-old chestnut gelding owned by his father Peter Charles.

Tough competition

It was a tough competition with many combinations picking up faults all over the course, and the 19-year-old rider was one of only two riders to keep a clean sheet.

Harry finished ahead of Germany’s Cedric Wolf on Cho Chang J who took silver and Austria’s Felix Koller and Captain Future who won bronze.

Harry and Vivaldi du Dom are seasoned European Championship campaigners, having previously won team silver and individual silver at the 2017 European Championships in Slovakia, and team bronze and individual silver at the 2015 European Championships in Austria.

Team GB also won medals in the Junior Championships, taking team and individual silver.
