A dead horse was found by a group of golfers in Brentwood in Essex last Friday (9 September).

The golfers were playing at Warley Park Golf Club when they spotted the body lying in a nearby field. The piebald cob’s stomach was ripped open and its intestines spilling out.

They contacted local horse owners Sharon Bowmer and her daughter Lauren. Having seen the dead animal, they suspected it had been dumped there out of a van or similar. Their vet confirmed it had not been microchipped, and the identity of the horse’s owners is not known.

“Whatever they tipped it off could have caused the damage to its stomach or if it had had a disease that caused its stomach to swell it could have split the side when it went into rigamortis,” Sharon told Essex Live.

After being told it could take up to 28 days for the horse’s body to removed, Sharon and Lauren paid £372 to have the horse cremated.
