We are excited to announce a new series coming to Horse & Country, in time for the World Equestrian Games (WEG).

Road to WEG

Road to WEG takes a look ahead at WEG 2018 in North Carolina, USA and what makes this competition so special.

The series features interviews with the biggest names in equestrian sport, plus footage from previous WEGs and the test event at Tryon International Equestrian Centre.

Episode one focuses on jumping and diving with interviews from 2014 individual and team gold medalist Jeroen Dubbeldam; Rodrigo Pessoa, who won gold in Rome in 1998; plus seasoned WEG competitors Beezie Madden and McLain Ward.

Driving legend

The show also visits the home of WEG driving legend Ijsbrand Chardon, who has won an incredible 12 WEG medals, and meets his son Bram, who is a serious contender for team selection.

Australia’s Boyd Exell is another driving great, who won the individual title in Kentucky 2010 and Normandy 2014. He is the hot favourite for this year’s event, but Boyd explains why he will have to work hard to clinch his third title in a row.

The show also gives an American perspective through the eyes of US top driver Chester Weber, who talks about the advantage of competing on home turf and his past WEG medals.

Exclusive footage

The second episode takes a closer look at the sport of eventing, reining and endurance. The show kicks off with visits to the homes of Sandra Auffarth – Germany’s individual and team gold medallist from WEG 2014 – and multi WEG medallist William Fox-Pitt.

William talks about his WEG memories and gives his thoughts on the British team this year and who to look out for in Tryon.

In reining, there is exclusive footage with the Italian team in Tuscany featuring Gennaro Lendi and Marco Manzi. The duo introduces us to the sport, explains the horsemanship required and the type of horse suitable for this disciple.

Road to WEG starts on Friday 24th at 8.30pm on Sky 184 and Horse & Country TV. You can also view the show via Amazon Video, Roku and Virgin TV.
