Could Charlotte and Carl have the next Valegro on their yard?

Charlotte Dujardin and Carl Hester are already making plans for the Tokyo Olympics, and think they might have the next Valegro in their stable.

Speaking exclusively to H&C’s Jenny Rudall for the latest episode in the popular Rudall Rides With... series, Carl revealed why he has his eye on 2020, after swearing he would never compete in another Olympics.

“After London I said, ‘Please shoot me if I do Rio’ and nobody shot me,” Carl told Jenny. “I said the same thing to Charlotte in Rio, ‘Please shoot me if talk about Tokyo’. Then we came back and started talking about Tokyo. It’s driving me mad!”

Their current star horses, Valegro, Uthopia and Nip Tuck – who have amassed an impressive six Olympic medals between them – will be enjoying a quieter life by the time 2020 rolls round. So what stops the 49-year-old from hanging up his Olympic boots, too?

“Charlotte and I look at our horses when we’re schooling and say: “That one could do Tokyo… and that one could do Tokyo’,” said Carl. “We have some really great horses here and are going to try and produce something in time for 2020.”
