According to data experts EquiRatings, Chris Burton is officially the fastest cross-country rider in the world. So what is the secret to his success? Think like a racing car driver.

“Our sport is a lot like Formula One, but that doesn’t mean you should try and go flat out,” says Chris. “You need to make good lines, be brave and brake late.”

The other important thing is seeing a distance. In front of a full house at the International Event Forum (IEF) at Hartpury College, Chris demonstrated how you can practise seeing a stride – and adjust it – using two poles.

“Seeing a distance is something I’m obsessed about and always working on,” Chris told the audience.
