Children’s book dedicated to event horse

A former three-day eventer has written about the adventures of her four-star horse in a new children’s book.

Cheeky character

Lottie Prentice bought ‘Ted’ as a three-year-old from a priest in Ireland. She produced him herself and together they enjoyed international success, competing at major three-day events, including Burghley and Gatcombe.

Ted was as much-loved for his cheeky character as his talent as an eventer, and had his own fan club.

He retired aged 19, but his legacy lives on in a children’s book written by Lottie.

Ted’s escapades

Now a mum, solicitor and part-time model, the former British team member was inspired to write by the book by her three-year-old son.

William enjoyed bedtime stories of Ted’s escapades, which included biting the blacksmith and escaping from a field by jumping over a five bar gate.

A Tale of Tedfollows the many adventures of the grey eventer, set at the height of his competitive career.

Very naughty

The story starts: “Once upon a time there was a beautiful grey horse calledTed. He was very, very handsome. He loved to gallop and jump big fences. He was very powerful and talented.

“ButTedwas a very, very naughty horse. So naughty in fact that he had to be kept in a stable all on his own and in a field far, far away…”
