Laura Collett has come second at Luhmühlen CCI4* with Mr Bass, who was competing in his first four-star event.

Close call

Team GB dominated the leaderboard at Luhmühlen, with four riders in the top five.

Laura was second after the cross-county, behind Jonelle Price, and she hung on to her position on the podium after Mr Bass jumped an immaculate clear.

It was a close call between Laura and Ros Canter, as they completed on the same score. However, Laura stayed within the optimum time on the cross-country, which gave her the edge over Ros and Zenshera.

‘Incredibly happy’

“I am so incredibly happy with my horse who came to me as an unbroken four-year old,” said Laura. “This makes it so much more special! We work so hard with our horses and there are definitely more lows than highs in our sport, so we really enjoy moments like this.

“Mr. Bass tried his heart out for me this week, he knew when it mattered most – I am so proud!”

Fourth placed Kitty King and Ceylor LAN moved up from sixth after jumping clear in the final phase, while Willa Newton and Chance Remark dropped to fifth place after having one pole.

‘Little crazy’

USA’s Boyd Martin was the overnight leader after the cross-country, but had to withdraw Shamwari before the final trot-up. This moved Jonelle into first place – which she maintained after jumping clear on Faerie Dianimo.

“This mare can be a little crazy at times – she can be difficult in dressage, very strong in cross-country and jumps like she is huge – but this is what makes her as good as she is,” said Jonelle.

Jonelle is on incredible form, with her win at Luhmühlen coming just two weeks after taking the title at the Mitsubishi Badminton Horse Trials.
