The CSI3* Land Rover Speed Stakes at the Royal Windsor Horse Show saw British riders take the top three places (Friday 16 May).

Speed queen

Laura Renwick, who is the highest ranked female showjumper in Britain, finished well clear of the other riders to further prove her skill in speed classes.

With the 13-year-old mare Beluga, she was almost 5sec faster than John Whitaker (Uni Stop) in second. Tim Stockdale came third on Fresh Direct Kalico Bay, while Ireland’s Trevor Breen came fourth on Fragile d’Or.

Later that afternoon, in the Bahrain Pearl Stakes, Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah Al Sharbatly won on Andrea, shaving 2sec off Shane Breen’s time. Nick Skelton was the best of the Brits with fifth place on the eight-year-old Aristio, the son of Nick’s former Olympic partner Arko.

Long run

For the second year, a 120km endurance race was held at Royal Windsor. The win was shared by His Highness Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa of Bahrain and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum of the United Arab Emirates. The winning brothers in-law crossed the line together, riding hand in hand.

The highest placed Brit was Harry Ingram, who finished 12th on Bronze Nahdir.
