The unstoppable Ben Maher enjoyed the perfect end to a perfect season winning the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix final in Doha – where he was also crowned the 2018 Champion of Champions.

‘Out of our league’

Ben had already done enough to take the title after Rome, and his fifth win in Doha put him 43 points ahead of last year’s champion Harrie Smolders. The current world number had to settle for second place behind Ben, who he described as “out of our league.”

Ben owes much of his success to the amazing young stallion Explosion W, who took him to to victory once again in Doha.

“I can’t quite take it in to be honest,” said Ben. “I have such a good bond with Explosion W. You believe you can do anything riding a horse like him. He’s just such a fun horse to be around, he enjoys his work.”

GC Playoffs

The 35-year-old was also the main anchor of the dominant London Knights, who won the final of the Global Champions League team championship on the same day.

Ben will be the one to watch at the new €12 million GC Playoffs in Prague in December where he will compete in the LGCT Super Grand Prix and the GCL Super Cup.
