All the Queen’s Horses – meet the organiser

Every year, while most of us are nursing hangovers or considering starting our resolutions, a group of intrepid horse riders set off through the streets of central London as part of the London New Year’s Day Parade.

In this video, we meet Caroline Marsh, founder and organiser of ‘All The Queens Horses’. She tells us how she managed to get horses included in the parade, what she looks for when selecting the participants, and why it’s so special.

A total of 64 riders take part in the parade, and their brave equines have to walk down some of London’s most iconic streets, which are lined with people cheering – up to half a million spectators attend. Not only that, the horses are just a part of the large scale parade, which also includes jugglers, cheerleaders, acrobats, clowns and marching bands.

This year’s theme is ‘Lights, Camera, Action’, while previous years have featured the Swinging Sixties, London Moving and Magic & Fantasy.

The parade includes a host of different breeds, side-saddle rides and horse-drawn carriages.

The equestrian element of the parade starts off 11.45am at Piccadilly Circus and finishes at Parliament, with the return route back via the Horse Guards, The Mall and Buckingham Palace. The event is free to watch.
