Cologne Racing Club Season Opening Grand Prix Germany 2025
On Sunday, the racecourse in Cologne-Weidenpesch finally gets underway again. The winter break is over, and the Cologne Racing Club is eagerly anticipating the first event of the year. The Grand Prix opening gallop (Listed race, 2,400m, €25,000) will also be a sporting highlight on the premiere race day, comprising eight competitions. Racing fans are eagerly awaiting the comeback of a special horse, Group 1 winner Tünnes, who is very popular not only with the Cologne crowd. He owes his original Cologne name to his owner Holger Renz, who loves to give his horses these special Cologne names, which all have a connection to his hometown. The six-year-old Tünnes, brother of Arc hero Torquator Tasso, is currently being trained by trainer Maxim Pecheur at the Röttgen Stud in Rath-Heumar. Tünnes, ridden by Martin Seidl, should have his first chance at victory in this Listed race. The Guiliani son will have to watch out for local favorite Wintertraum, ridden by Slovakian rider Michal Abik. Waldemar Hickst's Grand Prix horse, trained at the venue, is considered a real test case for the favorite.
Please note this event is only available for H&C+ members or rent for 1 month
