Description

For more than 40 years, Dressage at Devon (DAD) has brought top competitors, horses, trainers and judges from across the continent and around the globe together for one of the highest-rated international dressage competition. DAD opens with the three-day Breed Division, in which horses and ponies from young foals to 5 year old mares and stallions, are judged for movement and conformation. The four-day Performance Division begins on Thursday. Most Dressage at Devon classes are FEI (Fédération Equestre Internationale) level, including four Grand Prix classes, the level of Olympic competition. Musical freestyle classes are favourites.

Day 2 of the qualifying event for the USDF Breeders Championship East Coast Series and  East Coast Series Championship Final includes 

Materiale Classes Sponsored by Triple Crown Nutrition

Horses are ridden in a group and judged on movement, potential as a dressage horse.  Horse between 3,4,5 years are eligible to enter. Classes are broken down by age and sex.

Young Horse/ Sport Horse Classes (East Coast USDFBC Qualifier)
Horses are shown in hand and judge on confirmation and potential as a dressage horse. These classes include Fillies & Colts of current year , Yearling Fillies, Colts & Geldings (born 2022), 2 year old Fillies & Colts (born 2021), 3 year Old Fillies, Colts & Geldings (born 2020), 4 year old Fillies, Colts & gelding (born 2019). The top 2 horses in  each class come back for the final judging in their respective division to be designated the champion.  This includes the Foal Championship  2023 Sponsored by Hilltop Farm , the Filly Championship, the Colt Championship and the Young Horse championship.
Mature Horse/Breeding Classes 
Horses are shown in hand and judge on confirmation and potential as a dressage horse. These classes include 4 year old and older maiden Mares,4 year old and older Broodmare,4 year old and older Stallions. The top horses in each class are eligible for the championship judging to be designated the Mare Champion , Stallion Champion.  and ultimately 1 is named the 2023 Mature Horse Champion.

Day 3 of the show continues with a focus on breeding and education.

USDF Breeders Championship Final

Dressage at Devon is proud to host the East Coast Series Final for breeding. Classes include current year Foal final, Filly final, Colt/Gelding final, 4 year old Sport Horse prospect, Mare Final, Stallion final and Materiale classes for 3 , 4, 5 year old championships. 

National Young Horse classes

Thursday afternoon in the Wheeler ring we  begin the transition to the Performance show with the national Young Horses classes.  These test are specifically designed to show a young horse potential for dressage. A panel of judges will look at the athleticism, basic paces and general impression of the horse as a dressage prospect. General impression includes temperament, natural talent and conformation to become a high level dressage horse. Overall performance is more important than the details of the test. This includes the cooperation with the rider, natural balance, willingness to perform, and willingness to collect. Classes  include the USEF 4 year old test, the FEI  test for 5 , 6 and 7 year old horses.

Day 4 and the show now shifts to Dressage at Devon Performance show where top horse and riders come to compete in both rings.
