The Longines Global Champions Tour returns to London

Good news for showjumping fans as the Longines Global Champions Tour returns to London – with a brand new venue.

Organisers have announced the Royal Hospital Chelsea as the new location for the event, which will be held on the 3- 6 August 2017.

The event was first held in London in 2013 at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It then moved to Horse Guards Parade the following summer, before moving a third time to Kew Gardens in 2015.

The Tour did not include a London leg this year.

Top riders such as Scott Brash are expected to take part. “I’m proud London is on the calendar again alongside the other iconic and unique destinations around the world,” he said. “Having a UK leg of the Championship will be very positive for our country’s show jumping, and will hopefully inspire new generations, continuing our 2012, and Nick’s 2016, Olympic legacy. I can’t wait to compete there next summer; it’s going to be a very special event.”

The venue is more central than two of the previous GCT London sites, and is best known as the location for the famous Chelsea Flower Show as well as being the historic home of the Chelsea Pensioners.

Some of the other international GCT legs are held in extraordinary places with stunning backdrops – such as Miami Beach and Monaco. Hopefully this fourth home for the London leg of the series will provide the right setting to truly showcase the city – and the sport.
