Gemma Tattersall played the pathfinder role today as the first session of the eventing dressage got underway in Rio.

Riding the 11-year-old grey mare Quicklook V, Gemma produced a poised test with just a few small errors, including a break into canter in the early trot work. Her score of 47.2pen put her into fifth place at this early stage of proceedings.

As we go into the first interval, France’s Astier Nicolas holds the lead so far on 42.0pen, while Australia’s Sam Griffiths is second on 46.30pen.

Ireland’s Padraig McCarthy currently holds third place ahead of Tim Price from New Zealand.

However, the leaderboard could soon look somewhat different – next into the arena is the reigning World champion Sandra Auffarth and Opgun Luovo.
