Rescue horses to be celebrated at Equifest

RSPCA rescue horses will be on show at this year’s Equifest event.

Touching stories

This will be the fifth consecutive year that the RSPCA will attend the Peterborough Showground, where a handful of rescued horses and ponies will be up for adoption, and visitors can enjoy meeting some of the happily rehomed animals.

The charity will be showcasing previous winners of Equifest, such as the well known colt Gizmo, who made a remarkable recovery from near death in 2014.

Chief Inspector and head of RSPCA’s specialist equine team Cathy Hyde, said: “Previous winner’s stories have shown amazing transformations, such as last year’s winner Gizmo whose story had the audience and judges in tears.

“From collapsed, emaciated or abandoned – these are the worst cases of neglect and are often very moving and inspiring,” she added.

Competitive classes

A variety of demonstrations and performances will also be shown along with a special performance, showing the ‘before’ and ‘after’ impact on previous rescue ponies’ lives.

Classes will take place on Saturday 20 August.

One lucky combination will be crowned rescue horse/pony of the year and entries are open to horses from all charities such as Blue Cross, HAPPA, Redwings, and World Horse Welfare.
