A horse pulling a coffin to a funeral has been killed after a car tried to overtake and smashed into the carriage.

Knocked down

Will a 15-year-old Friesian stallion had to be put down at the side of the road after being knocked down in the accident. The carriage driver Mark Evans was also injured when he was thrown from the carriage as it made its way to to Coychurch Crematorium in Bridgend Wales.

The funeral was for Elizabeth Morris who planned it herself after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

‘Total chaos’

Her granddaughter Kirsty Thomas said the family were ‘devastated’ by the incident.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Kirsty said in the Daily Mail. “The horses were thrown up in the air and the driver was thrown like a rag doll too.

“It just turned into total chaos. People were running around and had no idea what had happened.”

Devastated

Will and Tom had been part of the family carriage business since they were three years old. According to Mark’s partner Helen Will was a real gentleman.

“You can’t put a price on Will’s worth,” she said. “He was invaluable to us. We are devastated.”

South Wales Police are investigating the accident, but no arrests have been made.
