Watch this clip to find out why Gemma Tattersall got the giggles after jumping Badminton’s infamous Vicarage V.

Roller coaster

Gemma is the latest special guest on H&C’s popular series Rudall Rides With… The Olympic rider hacked out with guest presenter Rhi Lee-Jones, who was lucky enough to ride her Rio horse Quicklook.

Gemma talked frankly to Rhi about her roller coaster year, revealing she has “learned more about myself and horses and competing and life in one year, than I have learnt in my whole life.”

Here are Gemma’s highlights of her “fantastic year”, which she says she will never forget:

Coming third at Badminton

“I will never forget jumping the Vicarage V. We were really late to go in the day and so many people had so many problems there. But Arctic Soul skipped over it like it was a novice fence. I remember landing and cantering away and actually having a giggle to myself.”

Winning Bramham CIC3*

“One feeling I will never forget was when I won the Rio Olympic selection trial at Bramham. Pippa [Funnell] was second and Tina [Cook] was third, so I had my two idols on the podium with me.”

Getting selected for Rio 2016

“I was just arriving home from the selection when Yogi rang. I knew it was the phone call and I was shaking. He said ‘Congratulations, you’ve been selected to ride for Team GB’. My mum burst into tears, while I was trying to have a serious conversation with Yogi!”
