Can you believe it’s been 20 years since a young Italian jockey named Frankie Dettori went through the card at Ascot?

In this video, Sara Cox chats to Frankie about that remarkable day two decades ago, when he became the first – and only – jockey to have ever won all seven races on a card. “In all the things that I did in my career, if I have to pick one thing that I’ll remember, then it’s winning those seven races at Ascot,” he said.

Frankie won his seventh race aboard Fujiyama Crest, and his seven-timer cost bookmakers an estimated £40m, due to the cumulative odds of 25,051-1.

“The horse was a big outsider and I didn’t expect him to win but he was the one who actually broke the record and won the seventh race,” added Frankie. “He’s the one who made me famous, who took racing from the back pages to the front pages.”
